This bar smells amazing! The blackstrap molasses, coffee and cocoa mixture imparts a rich delicious scent. Shampoo bars are a way to wash your hair without stripping it of its natural oils, typically done by commercial shampoos. The result is clean hair that is soft and smooth and needs little, if any, conditioning as this bar is conditioning by itself. Blackstrap molasses has been used by women for many years as a way to add strength to hair and to prevent breakage. Molasses contains copper, an essential trace mineral which helps in restoring graying hair back to its original color. Molasses also stimulates hair growth and prevents sun damage.

A recent study, published in the International Journal of Dermatology (2007) demonstrated a link between caffeine and hair loss treatment and according to, "further developments in the production of topical caffeine-based dermatological products, perhaps based on coffee extracts, remains one of the most promising directions of hair loss prevention."

This bar contains both coffee and cocoa powder, both rich in caffeine. In addition, cocoa powder contains flavinoids, effective antioxidants thought to increase hair resilience and strength. To read more on this topic go to :

Finally, this solid shampoo bar contains no parabens, phalates, sulfates, or artificial fragrances.

Note: This bar may darken hair and cover small amounts of grey. It will also "run" in the shower so you will see a stream of brownish tinged water, but it will not stain bathroom ceramics.

Additional Note: Some people may find that their hair goes through an adjustment period while they are transitioning to a natural shampoo bar. During this time, their hair may seem more oily than usual. If this is the case, an apple cider vinegar rinse will alleviate this problem. Just mix 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water. After shampooing, pour the mixture over your hair. Leave for a few minutes and then you may either rinse it out or leave it in. Leaving it in may be helpful for long hair that tangles. If you chose to leave it in, your hair will not smell like vinegar once it is dried. Promise!

* Sodium hydroxide is a necessary ingredient to mix with oil to make natural and gentle soap. All soap is made with sodium hydroxide. However, once the soap begins to harden, sodium hydroxide levels reduce until they are no longer present. The soap you purchase from Vita Pulita will no longer contain sodium hydroxide.
